A new chapter in bespoke luxury arrives this autumn, as Huntsman partners with renowned American wooden boat designer and builder Fitzke Boatworks to unveil the Moonshine Series, a modern revival of the iconic gentleman’s racer. This exclusive collaboration fuses the precision of Savile Row tailoring with the artistry of handcrafted wooden boatbuilding, culminating in a vessel that defines elegance, performance, and heritage.

In the 1920s, gentlemen’s racers represented the pinnacle of American boatbuilding. Sleek, bespoke vessels made for captains of industry, they were the very definition of speed and elegance.  Today, Fitzke Boatworks reimagines this legacy with Miss Moonshine, the first in a new series of hand-built racers. Inspired by the rum runners of the Prohibition era, the boat blends historic design with modern engineering for breathtaking results. Each Moonshine series racer is meticulously crafted under the direction of renowned boat designer & builder Kevin Fitzke, whose expertise brings timeless forms to life using traditional materials and contemporary methods.

No detail has been overlooked. From the Huntsman-developed marine-grade tweed that upholsters the interior seats and fenders, to the cold-moulded Honduras mahogany hull, Miss Moonshine is a study in material mastery. A Fitzke Moonshine series boat is built by hand and can take up to a year to complete with traditional materials such as mahogany, old-growth douglas fir, stainless steel, and aluminium.  The signature torpedo shape hull is created by cold moulding Honduras mahogany, meticulously hand-laminating it into each curve. The sides and deck are double-planked in Honduras mahogany and Spanish Cedar, with the bottom triple-planked in okoume mahogany. 

Inspired by vintage watches and the instruments in pre-war Grand Prix cars, Fitzke has meticulously designed and fabricated the gauges and hardware. To upholster the seats with the Huntsman tweed, Fitzke sourced vintage sewing machines that could perfectly replicate 1920s fit and workmanship. Kevin’s methods are elevated with modern construction techniques that respect the heritage of bespoke wooden boat building, while enhancing performance and durability. 

This collaboration marks a bold new venture for Huntsman, taking us from dry land into a new realm of bespoke engineering. The interior seats and protective fenders of Miss Moonshine are upholstered in a marine-grade tweed. Developed by Huntsman to incorporate the natural longevity and resilience of tweed, produced to endure the elements without compromising quality. 

Each Huntsman Moonshine series comes with bespoke upholstery in the exclusive Moonshine Tweed, matching fender covers, and is complemented with a bespoke cover and set of bespoke luggage.

At 23 feet in length with a 6-foot beam, Miss Moonshine hits the sweet spot in size, proportion and performance, balancing aesthetic grace with high-performance capability. Powered by a hand-built 5.7-litre V8 engine, the Moonshine series offers both thrilling speed and refined cruising. Fitzke had apprenticed under naval architect Michel Berryer, learning 3D-CAD design software, hydrodynamic study and structural engineering of wooden pleasure boat design. The boat’s lines are influenced by the celebrated bygone era of designers George Crouch and John Hacker.  

The first Huntsman & Fitzke Boatworks gentleman’s racer has already been reserved to its discerning owner. But for those who appreciate craftsmanship, design, and history, the order book is now open. This is more than a boat, it’s a bespoke legacy on water. Only two hulls may be produced per model year, tailored to your specifications.
