Huntsman served as the inspiration for Matthew Vaughn’s blockbuster movie Kingsman: The Secret Service, its sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and its prequel King’s Man
Huntsman served as the inspiration for Matthew Vaughn’s blockbuster Kingsman movies The Secret Service, The Golden Circle and The King’s Man. A prequel to the Kingsman movie series, the King’s Man features plenty of bespoke Huntsman suits once again and will be released on February 14, 2020.
During an appointment with his cutter, Vaughn imagined moving beyond the walls of his fitting room, with the legendary premises acting as a smokescreen for his team of spies, the Kingsmen.
In homage to the first movie, Huntsman created pocket squares of our iconic shop before and after the explosion in the second movie. You can find those in the shop online, alongside our full range of accessories sought by the best bespoke connoisseurs.
Vaughn, who first visited our fitting rooms at 18 years of age, has a long relationship with Huntsman. Upon reaching that milestone age, his mother brought him in for his first bespoke outfit, urging her son to consider only Huntsman for proper suits. The experience made a lasting impression on Vaughn, and he has built an enduring sartorial rapport with the Huntsman team over the years. If you are also looking to find such rapport, you can make an appointment and meet one of Huntsman’s trusted cutters who will have you convinced on your first visit. Vaughn’s journey didn’t stop there. When Huntsman was acquired by Pierre Lagrange, executive producer of Vaughn’s movies since Stardust, the story of Kingsman at Huntsman gathered momentum and never looked back! Very alert viewers will recognise Huntsman’s Creative Director and Head Cutter Campbell Carey in a cameo role in the movie’s tailoring rooms.
The action-packed and hilarious spy caper plays tongue-in-cheek homage to other “secret service” movies but stands head and shoulders above them in its close attention to sartorial elegance. James Bond may have cut a dash, but Colin Firth, in his role as dapper Harry Hart, and Taron Egerton, his protégé Eggsy, really up the ante in the style stakes.
Viewers will recognise our shop front, iconic stags’ heads and fitting room, with its familiar wood panelling, coat hooks and three-ways mirror — now called the Kingsman room. Become a Kingsman yourself and be transported by this iconic fitting room.
Visitors to Savile Row in October 2015 and February 2017 may have found the street closed and the surrounding area chock-a-block with production trucks. This was for the filming of director Matthew Vaughn’s two Kingsman movies. Huntsman leant its services as a key location for the production, our premises proving the perfect setting and the opening sequence for Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
It was fascinating to see how promptly and deftly the set designer and props team (assisted by Huntsman’s Paul Abraham) transformed the shop and its frontage for the production before restoring it back to its original self, all within 48 hours.
Clients visiting our Savile Row premises can have the pleasure of becoming a Kingsman for the day, enjoying their fitting in the room where Matthew Vaughn was inspired to write the movie, which features in several exciting scenes. (We particularly love the moments when Taron Egerton turns a coat hanger to discover the concealed weapons room and the hand-on-the-mirror biometric entry to the cave!) Don’t be surprised to see a transformation in your appearance when you come to the shop, as can be witnessed by the following images of some of those Kingsmen who have preceded you.
Huntsman’s century old Savile Row premises also witnessed a 24 hours invasion by recording and filming crews for the making of Kingsman’s soundtrack. Take That recorded “Get Ready for It”, the anthem song, the soundtrack and shot the video entirely at Huntsman. The video captures the atmosphere of our cutting and fitting rooms, with a twist!
Huntsman also had an explosive impact in the sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The action packed follow up sees the iconic 11 Savile Row headquarters blown up and the world held hostage by the drug cartel known as The Golden Circle. The members of Kingsman find new allies when they discover a spy organization in the United States known as Statesman. In an adventure that tests their strength and wits, the elite secret agents from both sides of the pond band together to battle a ruthless enemy and save the day, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy.
Fortunately, despite the impressive on-screen fireworks, our shop at 11 Savile Row remained unharmed during the filming of Kingsman: The Golden Circle! In celebration of the release of the second movie, our shop window paid homage with the recreation of that famous scene.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle features another iconic sartorial moment, as viewers will instantly recognise the bespoke orange velvet dinner jacket finished with a black grosgrain facing and buttons, worn by Taron Egerton in the movie.
Visitors to the shop are well acquainted with the Orange Velvet Jacket in our Kingsman Fitting Room. Under the direction of Matthew Vaughn himself, the now iconic jacket was created and hand cut by Head Cutter Campbell Carey bespoke for the movie and served as the direct inspiration for the coat seen on screen.
With filming for the third installment of Kingsman already underway, you can expect to see Huntsman feature again with prominence! Keep in touch with us to be in the know of all things Kingsman and be the first to see behind the scenes.
