The Huntsman MONKEY
The Huntsman Monkey - created in Mustique & Savile Row to celebrate the 'Year of the Monkey'. Happy Year of the Monkey to all our Huntsman clients! Whilst holidaying in Mustique, our Chairman came across a beautiful shirt with a monkey printed pattern, among the silk prints Lotty Bunbury produces for the Island boutique. Over the years, Lotty has become somewhat of a celebrity artisan of silkscreens, producing great designs inspired by Island living. Lotty’s designs have travelled worldwide, gracing the pages of many high-end titles with a host of celebrities donning her fabulous designs from Liz Hurley to The Duchess of Cambridge."As children, we would breakfast on the veranda and the wild monkey’s would climb down from the trees to come to take the bananas and other fruit from the breakfast table"
Lotty's inspiration for her monkey fabric goes back to her childhood spent in Africa with her nine brothers and sisters - “as children, we would breakfast on the veranda and the wild monkey’s would climb down from the trees to come to take the bananas and other fruit from the breakfast table”, Lotty tells us. Being born in the ‘Year of the Monkey’ also led Lotty “to always have a soft spot for them”. When we received the pictures, we immediately loved our little furry friend. Our Creative Director Campbell Carey and Robert Bailey, Senior Cutter in charge of our Chinese clients, decided it was the perfect fit to have the monkey from Mustique to grace Huntsman bespoke suits for the lunar year of the monkey. This follows a long tradition of using silk prints as sophisticated linings, something Hollywood legend Stewart Granger was first to request from Huntsman. Campbell worked with Lotty and the producers based in London to get the right weight and colors to create the linings as well as pocket squares. The result is stunning, and is proudly displayed in our february Savile Row window. The lining is available for our made to measure and bespoke range, please email us for more information.
