Huntsman is delighted to be featured in Demna Gvasalia’s debut couture show for Balenciaga. The collection, which includes Huntsman tailoring for men and women, premiered on Wednesday in Paris, opening with structured silhouettes handcrafted by Huntsman.
On Wednesday July 7th Balenciaga announced its first collection of couture, which features 1o garments made by Huntsman.
Bringing couture back to the French Maison after a fifty-three-year hiatus is Balenciaga Creative Director Demna Gvasalia, with a compelling homage to the century-old brand’s unique heritage. Tapping into the Maison’s deepest roots, Balenciaga is collaborating with Huntsman given its world-renowned craftsmanship, which once dressed Cristóbal Balenciaga himself, who trained as a tailor.
The Huntsman for Balenciaga Couture collection offers the highest creative and qualitative level of product to customers, guaranteed by both houses’ excellence, craftsmanship, and style. This collaboration was an innovative moment, powered by expertise that can only be cultivated by centuries-old tradition for greatness.
“Couture is above trends, fashion, and industrial dressmaking. It is a timeless and pure expression of craft and the architecture of silhouette that gives a wearer the strongest notion of elegance and sophistication. Couture is the highest level of garment construction that is not only relevant today in a mass-productive industry, but even absolutely necessary for the survival and further evolution of modern fashion design.”
In Huntsman, Balenciaga has found a tailor that has housed generations of technical experts for over 170 years. Conversely, Huntsman found the process of working with the Couture designers at Balenciaga creatively energising, allowing them to push the limits of what is technically possible in a way that only the handmade process can allow.
“The world of fashion has for many years looked to Savile Row and in particular, Huntsman, as the benchmark for timeless tailoring. Our centuries old construction methods and unparalleled technical know-how is what manufacturing is forever trying to emulate. This collaboration was particularly satisfying as it challenged us collectively to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with hand-made bespoke tailoring.”
Huntsman Creative Director Campbell Carey
Sharing similar values, and having been built on the same foundation of excellence, the Huntsman for Balenciaga Couture collection features exclusive cuts for both men and women and is a testament to the timelessness of sartorial excellence
“Over the years, we have been approached by many fashion houses to collaborate on collections. However, we chose to work with Balenciaga as there is not only an incredible synergy between the two houses, but an unbridled appreciation of our house cuts and technical expertise”
Taj Phull, Head of Retail at Huntsman.
